our office is taking new photographs for our marketing literature, you’d be surprised at how often it’s common place to put a face with a proposal though few of us would ever consider attaching a photograph to our resumes. the mention of this photo session caused a bit of a stir which was only compounded by the following directions of the styles that should be adhered to. we’re a quiet group, truth be told many in the field are true introverts who would much rather stand behind their work but who silently revel in the spotlight. a bit juxtaposed I know but true none the less, “characters” I will say . . .

informal photograph, usually intended
for private use, taken with a small camera I think this photo shoot has us all a bit on edge; but I can tell that the thrill of that edge is raising the adrenalin and people are getting kind of excited and if we can be excited then our potential clients can be excited too. so that’s the first snapshot that I wanted to talk about; everyone wants to put their best foot forward because until we do this again this is the image that people will see when they visit our company website and this is the image that will be smiling back at them when we send out all those papers telling why they should hire us. crazy thing is that it will only look informal and candid, the reality is that a stylist decided what look we shall don and a make-up artist will be there to make sure we are truly flawless and where they leave off photoshop will pick up. sounds like high fashion but its the construction industry. . . I had an idea of the look I wanted to project.
the second snapshot comes with even more pressure than being captured on film. a friend of a friend (yes this is really the case) is from a country where the professional examinations in her chosen field are limited to two attempts; the score that you get will dictate what occupation you may hold within that field. so in other words you take a test in your mid-late twenties that says how far your career can go and that’s that. o.n.e. retake, 1, that’s it. for a brief moment I whined about taking a dang picture. I’m an American and I’m spoiled. I don’t like failure at all but I know that once I pick myself back up for the most part I’m free to attempt it again.
coming back from a shopping lunch (for picture day maybe) a woman who appeared to be upset got in the elevator with me, and then a gentleman. he got off on 10 and we continued to 19. on the ride up I confirmed my belief that she had been crying because her eyes were reddish and wet. the doors opened, I turned right, so did she. I knew that I knew her from somewhere but I couldn’t put my finger on it and then I realized that she was the friend of a friend and that’s when I heard about this policy, her score came in today. I think that real life needs professional stylists, image consultants, make-up artists and photoshop. . . instead I have random quotes in my head, that I will share.
“failure is an opportunity to begin again more intelligently”
